The other day I was in Myopic Books, and I came across a copy of Amazing Adult Fantasy on the shelves. Perhaps perversely, this delighted me to no end. I’ve bought a lot of books in my life, and most of them I’ve bought used. So I feel as though I can finally recognize myself as an author.
Anyone else ever have that experience?
In February 2011 I was in a Chapters bookstore in moncton, new brunswick, and saw a copy of my book on the shelves, which surprised me. When I asked a staff person if it could be fronted, she not only did that but suggested I sign it, so she could put a “Signed by Author” sticker on it. That made the whole process very real. And cool. And affirming.

Good idea. I’ll go back and see if they’ll let me do the same…

This is such a pleasant way to think about it, I will try to adopt this position if this ever happens to me. (As opposed to thinking: Somebody didn’t like it enough to keep it, and if anyone buys it here, there’s no $ in it for the small press who published it).
