I should add that I love the Port Center Café (1st and 2nd floors of University Hall). Great employees, great coffee, and apparently a pretty open-minded notion of friendship. Definitely one of the nicer environments on UIC’s campus.
Great employees?? What????

Yeah, they’re awesome! Eliot, Eli, Yolanda, they’re always super-nice to me. Have you had other experiences?
Plus they play cool music.

…the employees Ive experienced seem completely out of it and take 20 min to make a cup of coffee. …I have experienced it as typical campus joint where workers have no sense of urgency because of the captive and guaranteed market. Forget ever going there if you’re on your way to a class unless you have a full half hour of cushion. Jesus, I sound like one of those irritating and entitled Yelp reviewers. But seriously.

I can’t say I’ve experienced the same. Yes, there are sometimes delays, but the set-up/occasional high-volume kinda encourages that. I don’t think that’s the employees’ fault. If anything, they seem as frustrated by it as anyone.
I’d encourage you to revisit, reevaluate. Again, I’ve gotten to know some of the employees, think them swell. Eliot’s a friend of Lyndee’s, as come to some of her parties. Very nice guy, super into science-fiction.

I don’t know if I know the long-haired dude. There are four guys I’ve seen working there: Eliot, Eli, and two other guys. They’re all always very nice to me, and seem totally present. What can I say but I go there just about every day and have always had nice experiences?
